We are thrilled to welcome Huw Watkins MBE as our Composer-in-Residence to the Festival this year. One of the foremost British composers writing today, he is currently in residence at Wigmore Hall, Huw has written for orchestras including the LSO, BBSSO and BBCNOW, and the Halle, and for artists including Alina Ibragimova, Lawrence Power, Gerald Finley, Mark Padmore and Ruby Hughes. He has been awarded a British Composer Award and the Elise L. Stoeger Prize by the Lincoln Centre. In addition to the World Première of his Welsh Folk Songs on the 10th October, sung by tenor Nicky Spence with the composer at the piano, there will be an opportunity to hear a number of his works during the Festival, as well as to listen to him in concert with our Artistic Director, Tamsin Waley-Cohen, with Lawrence Power and Matthew Hunt and also in conversation with Katy Hamilton and Tamsin.
