Gail Pirkis and Hazel Wood, who met while working for the publisher John Murray, founded the quarterly book review Slightly Foxed in 2004. Their aim was to give new life to all the many wonderful titles that languish, often out of print, on publishers' backlists, rarely written about or available on bookshop shelves. Each issue is a fascinating collection of very personal recommendations from a wide variety of contributors, some well-known writers, others from backgrounds far from the literary world. It is edited to a high standard, beautifully produced and much loved by subscribers all over the world. In 2008 Gail and Hazel also launched Slightly Foxed Editions, a popular series of limited-edition reprints of classic memoirs. Small jewel-like hardbacks, they are eminently collectable and produced to the same high standard as the magazine.

Although this is a Members' event, in this special year for us there will be no charge for the event and it will be open to anyone, but places must be reserved by purchasing a free ticket; there will be an area of good seats reserved for Members on a first-come basis.

Donations will be invited for what promises to be a most interesting and entertaining talk and a delicious cream tea. We are certain that you will wish to give generously!
